This boat building stuff is crazy. Your brain jumps ahead to another possible boat when you are half way on your current project.

Duckworks brings new ideas five days a week plus the hard copy magazines every month filled with beautiful creations.

This brain lock happened at LOWES while on a quick trip to buy house happy stuff. I had to check current prices on plywood as they have been going up lately. I found an 11/32 exterior plywood board priced cheaper then ¼ plywood. The immediate question was can it be used in place of ¼ and will it bend like its ¼ inch brother.

Well why not try something simple and find out! What is simpler then HERB MCLEOD’S OSS. I had made that as my first build many years ago.

That was then and now is now, so I must answer some questions with this build.

WHAT IF YOU USED a 2X4 FOR THE STEM? AND WHAT IF TOU ADDED A FRONT KEEL BLOCK FOR DRAGGING THE BOAT?

Strange but it could work.

WHAT IF YOU CURVED THE SIDES, HIGH IN THE BOW AND CURVED TO THE STERN?

That looks pretty good.

WHAT IF YOU USED HEAVY ½ PLYWOOD FOR THE TRANSOM?

Well that could work.

WHAT ABOUT A FRONT DECK AND A LONG SEAT?

YEAH THAT IS A FANCY OSS. A FANCY PAINT JOB HELPS.

Now how does this CUTIE float, that is the question. Nest I have to pry my pretty first mate out of retirement, schoolwork, job and social commitments to pilot this CUTIE.

LOOKING GOOD, TWO CUTIES.

THE FIRST MATE LIKES THIS LITTLE CUTIE.

IT EVEN FLOARS WITH THE OLD FAT BOATBUILDER ABOARD.

Thank you, HERB MCLOAD. This was a fun build of the old OSS.

Well it isn’t a true OSS with an added transom, and the heavy plywood adds some pounds. But it drags on a front keel block and can be slid into the back of a small pick up.
