I always figured in a factor of 5 degrees of leeway, depending on the distance to destination and number of tacks and tidal streams expected. Usually better, i think, to arrive upwind of the destination. I understand 2 degrees of toe-in on a board is about maximum for all round use before it becomes detrimental. Towing a marker is about as simple an option to measure. Good essay.
