Willamette River Kayak Sailor Launched

John English just finished up this Willamette River Kayak with sail rig for his granddaughter. Here’s what he said:

Jeff,

I finished the build on my Grand Daughters Wilamette River Kayak. After building the kayak I was looking through your launching page and saw the Kayak from Turkey that had a sail added. So I looked around the internet and found some plans for a drop-in sail rig and built it to add to the Wilamette River kayak. The Kayak is built from Douglas Fir for the frame and Okoume Plywood for the sides bottom and deck. The deck was reinforced so you could sit on it if needed while sailing. The kayak, lee-board and rudder were all fiber glassed. Thanks for the great plans and building method!!

More info, free study prints, and links to purchase plans (but no sail rig) are available here: http://spirainternational.com/hp_will.php

Huntington Harbor Kayak

John English just completed this Huntington Harbor kayak with retractable outriggers for his grandson. Here’s what he wrote to me:

Jeff,

I finished the Huntington Harbor kayak for my Grandson, He loves to fish so I made him a fishing Kayak. Although the Huntington Harbor is very stable I added Retractable outriggers to ensure his safety while fishing. Each Outrigger displaces 90 lbs of water and they are 3 feet from the center of the kayak. The kayak is made with Douglas Fir frames and Okoume plywood. He loves the kayak. Thanks for the great free plans and the sound building method.

John English

Looks like it’ll be a fishing machine. Great work John!

Daydream Skiff

I finally started!  It’s a Daydream Skiff. It is a little known design by the guy who came up with the Summer Breeze skiff: David Beede. Here’s where you find it… http://simplicityboats.com/LCB.htm

A New Design in Progress

First sketch of next winters project. Bigger family kayak/canoe. My family (dear wife ) doesn’t like sailing too much, but she likes paddling (so do I ). The Idea is that stern turns to side and small motor can be attached to it. “Base camp” can reached with motor and some day paddling trips can be done from there.
