The Corakiboatshed 17footer is computer cut from a program generated from L. Francis’s October 1946 set of lines. Cut frames (New Guinea rosewood) are erected on the 8mm bottom plank, and planked up with 5 planks a side of 4mm Okume ply. These photo’s show the original prototype owned by me.
The pale blue boat on the trailer is owned by Jenny Head of Canberra and ply’s Lake Burley Griffin. The yellow boat is ‘To and Fro ‘ built from a kitset by Jim Llewellen of Gulmarrad and seen on the Clarence river.
The kitsets come with a illustrated manual which is available at cost for the curious.
The construction method suits a hour or two a day regime until the hull is planked up,and being right way up care can be taken to keep the inside clean and tidy for bright finish .Every effort is made to minimize sanding and fairing, and the amount of wood butchery is down to a few bevels and rebates. All in all a successful kit boat and a sheer delight to row.
Coraki is known as the Tea Tree capital and Corakiboatshed can supply grown knees and crooks to order. Not the Tea Tree of TeaTree oil fame but the roots paper bark that grows in the Bungawalbin swamp. We also can supply hand woven cane seats and thwarts to order, and will build the 17 footer to any stage.
Cheers
