Bill Paxton is the guy who organizes the Minnesota Messabout. Last year I couldn't quite make it to that event and suggested a gaffer gathering later in the summer. Bill ran with it and it turned out to be a great event. Now he is (rightly, I think) expanding it beyond gaffers. Bill says, "This one-day event is for all gaffers, luggers, lanteens, sprit rigs, gunters - anything but Bermuda-rigged sailboats. Let's see how many boats of unusual sail we can gather." The scenery alone is well worth the trip, and I'd say that even if you happen to have a bermuda rigged boat, well, these folks are friendly. Bill adds, "Bring a picnic lunch, come when you like, and stay as long as you want. For those who want to make a weekend of it, I highly recommend Hok-Si-La Park, for tent camping. For the less rustic, there are motels in Lake City.
